Game Development and Its Current Trends

The Department of Software Engineering, in collaboration with ORIC, organized a session on "Game Development and its current Trends" on Monday 6th June 2022 in Shahnawaz Bhutto Auditorium.
Mr Yawar Awan- Director M- Labs, spoke at the event and discussed game development essentials. He said that game development is grasping enormous importance with the advancement of technology as software games have become increasingly adopted by people of all ages. The guest also shared the details of the summer internship program being offered by his organization. The program was moderated by Ms. Saima Sipy, Lecture a Department of Software Engineering.
The program ended with an interactive question answer session. Both Faculty and students found this session intriguing and informational and showed their active participation."



LEARN How to create CRUD Application from Scratch using Java

Department of Computer Science , SMIU in collaboration with the Office of Research, Innovation and Commercialization (ORIC) organized one-day workshop successfully on the topic “LEARN: How to create CRUD Application from Scratch using Java” at Senate Hall, SMIU. Where CRUD (CREATE, READ, UPDATE and DELETE) operations are introduced and used for practicing, and also provides hands on experience with Java programming and object-oriented features. The workshop was conducted by Mr Irfan Ali Kandhro (PhD Scholar), lecturer, Department of Computer Science, SMIU.

Department of Computer Science, SMIU in collaboration with the Directorate of Research, Innovation and Commercialization (ORIC) organized a successful one-day workshop on the topic Desktop Oriented Graphical User Interface.



Start your digital business without investment

The Department of Artificial Intelligence and Mathematical Sciences in collaboration with ORIC SMIU has organized the workshop on “Start your digital business without investment". The session was conducted by Mr. Muhammad Faizan the Founder and CEO of Paper Free organization. Sharing his views, Mr. Faizan says that today, people are spending more money online, which has shifted business emphasis to digital sources of revenue and channels. The growth of the digital economy has made people more familiar with digital products and services digital transformation is a fundamental reality for businesses. Paper free is an experienced and trusted provider of enterprise content management solutions for government and industry. The session was moderated by: Mr. Syed Muhammad Hassan. Professor Dr. Syed Asif Ali, Dr. Imtiaz Hussain, Mr. Syed Azeem Inam, Mr. Hassan Hashim departmental Coordinator AIMS, and Dr. Sarmad Ahmed Shaikh attended the session. At the end of the seminar, the Departmental Chairperson Dr. Mansoor Khuhro presented souvenirs to the speaker.



The Art Of Freelancing

The Department of Software Engineering in collaboration with ORIC SMIU organized a session on "The Art Of Freelancing". Mr. Muhammad Ali Mughal the CEO of Jawan Pakistan delivered the talk on freelancing platforms and guided students about freelancing job market. The session was held on 24th of March 2022 at Sir Shahnawaz Bhutto Auditorium. The number of students and faculty members from various departments attended the session and it was moderated by Mr. Ameen Chhajro Faculty coordinator ORIC.



IEEE Students Chapter – Purpose, Benefits and Registration Process

Department of Software Engineering organized an introductory session on “IEEE Students Chapter – Purpose, Benefits and Registration Process” for students and Faculty members of Faculty of Information Technology on 24th March 2022, Thursday - 10:30 AM at Shahnawaz Bhutto Auditorium. Dr. Tariq Raheem Soomro, Rector & Dean CCSIS – Institute of Business Management was invited to conduct the session. He conducted the session along with his team of volunteers which included:

The program started with the recitation of few verses from the Holy Quran, after which the guest speaker started his presentation with the introduction of IEEE, its purpose and benefits. He covered all important aspects of IEEE in detail. At the end Dr. Aamir Iqbal Umrani delivered Vote of Thanks. The session concluded with the presentation of souvenirs to the guests.



Startup Grant Challenge

The Office of Research Innovation & Commercialization (ORIC) SMIU in collaboration with the Institute of Business Management (IoBM), Karachi has organized a workshop on “Startup Grant Challenge” for final year students / fresh graduates to participate and pitch in their business ideas to win PKR 500,000 as seed money. SSK Incubation Center (SSKIC) provides support and resources to early-stage start-ups.



Business Analysis: Present and Future Opportunities

Department of Software Engineering, SMIU in collaboration with the Directorate of ORIC has organized a one-day workshop on Business Analysis: Present and Future Opportunities on Tuesday, March 15th, 2022.' The session was conducted by Mr. Shahzeb Muhammad on the invitation of Mr. Basit Hassan. Mr. Shahzeb Muhammad highlighted the importance of business analysis in the context of systems development. He also described the vital role of the IIBA in promoting the discipline of business analysis.



Mobile App Development using React Native for IOS and Android Phones ERA 2021React Native comes in the top 10 among the developers of Web, Mobile, Desktop, or even for Smart TV. Considering the market demand the Department of Computer Science in collaboration with the Office of Research Innovation and Commercialization (ORIC), organized the one-day workshop on "Building Mobile App Using REACT NATIVE For Android and IOS " for the students of the Faculty of Information Technology. The Head of Department Dr. Aftab Ahmed Shaikh presented the welcome note. The workshop was conducted by CEO Expetizo, Mr. Muhammed Kashif Suleman. During the session, he made sure to make it a very interactive one. He engaged participants using the practical demo.  At the end of the session, a token of appreciation was presented to the guest by Dr. Mansoor Khuhro Coordinator Department of Computer Science, and Ms. Saima Sipy Lecturer Department of Software Engineering. The session was attended by a senior faculty member Mr. Ameen Khowaja Lecturer Department of CS, Ms. Saima Sipy Lecturer Department of SE, Visiting faculty Mr. Khalid Nawaz, Ms. Shiza Riaz Memon, and Ms. Faiza Waqas." 

Department of Computer Science, SMIU in collaboration with the Directorate of Research, Innovation and Commercialization (ORIC) organized a successful one-day workshop on 'Coding to Design Desktop Applications.' The workshop was conducted by Mr Irfan Ali Kandhro, lecturer, Department of Computer Science, for SMIU Students. The organizer participants were awarded certificate to the presentator by Dr. Mansoor A hmed Khuhro , Co ordinato r, Department of Computer Science SM IU.



SMIU ORIC Organized an Awareness Seminar with the collaboration of the Department of Computer Science. This Seminar was conducted by Mr. Abdullah Ayub (Ph.D. Scholar) from the Computer Science Department and Lecturer Department of Computing Science and Information Technology, Benazir Bhutto Shaheed University Lyari, Karachi. During the seminar, he provides detail about how to pursue research as a profession and the impact on research in social development. He engaged students by conduction some pay-related surveys and made sure that it would be an interactive one. Students of Bachelor and Master of Computer Science department of computer science participate. In the end, the director of ORIC (Dr. Aamir) presented the session conducted certificate and ended the session with the closing statement.

Allied facultyin collaboration with Directorate of Research, Innovation and Commercialization (ORIC) organized a session, in title: “Teaching of Islam, peace and harmony and tolerance” on Thursday, 23rd December at 10:30 am at Senate Hall. The resource person Dr. Abdul Hai Madni introduced participants to the basic concepts of Islam and Islamic Perspectives on Peace



Department of English in collaboration with Directorate of Research, Innovation and Commercialization (ORIC) organized a successful short workshop series. The resource persons Ms. Shagufta and Ms Aliza Haider interacted with students on the topics of Semantics; and The Art of Listening, respectively. Both workshops were dynamic, and students learned a great deal. Department of English SMIU arranged a workshop for the students of the department under the title of "Demystifying the myth of academic writing for young English learners." The resource person Mr Muhammad Hassan Abbasi, a senior lecturer of English at Bahria University Karachi interacted with students and made the session an active one. Students thoroughly learned about the art of writing in an academic way. The faculty members of the Department of English were also there to motivate the students.



Workshop Session

The Department of Software organized a seminar titled Role of Information Systems – A Human Resource Management Perspective on Monday, November 01, 2021. Mr. Zahid Asghar CEO of COMCON HR Business and Training Consultancy was invited to conduct the seminar. The distinguished guest has a vast experience of serving in several national as well as multinational organizations.
The session started with a welcome speech by Mr. Basit Hassan. The audience was provided with an overview about the topic and why is it important for the students of computing and allied disciplines. It was emphasized that since Information Systems developed by people with qualifications in computing to solve business problems, it is therefore necessary for the students to understand the perspective of business functions
The distinguished guest delivered his lecture. He gave an introduction about the activities performed by the Human Resources with an organization. He also enlightened the students about various enterprise software being used in various organizations.
The lecture was followed a question-and-answer session during which the audience interacted with the speaker.
Professor Dr. Syed Asif Ali presented souvenirs and publications of the university to the distinguished guest.
The seminar was attended by students and teachers from various departments of the Faculty of Information Technology.



ORIC Arranges Research Awareness Session For Students

ORIC arranged a research awareness session on March 13, 2018 at Quaid-e-Azam Conference Hall, Talpur House, for SMIU students aspiring to become research assistants. Students were informed how ORIC could assist them in carrying out research, creating innovative ideas and commercializing the same.

Importance of research culture and its relationship with Pakistan's economy was highlighted. Students were advised to identify problems around them while taking part in advancing research in the country. Skills and qualities of researchers were also contemplated. A case study on “Challenges faced by working women in Karachi”, as a research problem was also discussed.
The moderator drew attention to the reasons behind conducting research and the ethical considerations involved in research. Furthermore, role of ORIC in advancing research culture at SMIU and support available to the students were also discussed.
